Google Update-The Effects of Google +1 on SEO

Google recently announced the release of their newest feature called the “Google +1″ button. People may ask if it is similar to the Facebook “like” button. Well, it is! The Google +1 button will allow users to share and bookmark anything that they found interesting on the web.

The Google +1 button will appear next to search results for the .com version only. It will soon become available for all versions of Google. If you do not see the “+1″ button, its probably because you haven’t updated your Google profile. In order to give a website a “+1″ you must be logged in your Google account.
The Google +1 Button Is Similar To Facebook's "Like" Button

How It Works

The Google +1 button will allows users to share and recommend websites, articles, videos, etc. with their friends and family. Once you are logged in your Google account, you will be able to see what websites your friends and family have +1ed. You may also see what website your social circle have +1ed. Your social circle is calculated with stats gathered from your Gmail account, Google talk, Google reader, and Google contacts. Webmasters will soon be able to add the button to their website just like the Facebook “like” button or the Twitter “followers”.

SEO

The effects that the Google “+1″ button will have on SEO will be the same as Social Networking websites. Already, Google SERPs are affected by social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, etc. So it is expected that in future days, the Google “+1″ button will be used for rankings as well. The Google “+1″ button will give more weight and importance to a website if it has many +1s. Now you may think that this button will create massive amounts of spam, but Google thought of that and their web spam team highly monitors these results.

Click Through Rate

It is obvious that the Google “+1″ button will affect your click through rate. This is very normal because a user will tend to be more attracted to click on a result that has a lot of “+1s” than one that has very few. A user will be able to see the total amount of “+1s” a web page got along with the amount of “+1s” your social circle, friends, and family gave that particular web page. This will dramatically increase the odds of getting clicked on when you appear in SERPs.
