Keyword Research - Finding and Using Keywords

Now this is where you want to pay a lot of attention because keywords are the key to getting ranked and found in search engines results list. When someone types in a search query, the search engines will go crawl through its database and find the lists that match the query keywords with the keywords you have in you webpage.
Finding The Proper Keywords:

Before starting to write keywords in your webpage, make sure to do a vigorous search of what keywords people search for. In other words, you need to know how people search for products, services, or information you have to offer.
You can do that using a multiple set of tools given by Google. Visit the Google webmaster tools section for a handful of useful tools surrounding keyword usage and anything revolving around SEO.

Using Those Keywords:

Once you have all your keywords put together, it is time to use them. A good place to use those keywords is in the title, the body text, and meta tags. There are a bunch of other places where you should place keywords such as images file names, images alt tags, even in your URL.

If you are starting a website from scratch and you have in mind to optimize that website, try buying a domain name that contains keywords that you wish to optimize. If your domain name contains keywords that you use in your text, the search engines will see that your keywords are relevant to your domain, hence giving you much bigger chances to get high ranked.

Don’t put all your keywords in one fully loaded paragraph, that’s no good. Try dividing them into groups, and even divide the groups into subgroups. Let’s say you sell tires for example, so you have winter tires, summer tires, all season tires and so on as keywords. Then you take your summer tire keyword and divide it into subgroups such as summer low-profile tires, summer racing tires, etc.

To highly optimize your webpage with keywords, I recommend following and applying these techniques:
1.        Use your keywords in the title tag of the page.
2.        Use your keywords in the meta tags, especially the description tag.
3.        If you have any links, make sure that the link back anchor text is a keyword as well.
4.        Use the keywords in the URL, for example: http://www.tires.com/summer-tires/racing.
5.        If you want to add pictures, save the file name as a keyword. Don’t forget to add titles and alt tags to images.
6.        Use different variations of keywords through out the text.
There are obviously more ways to place keywords in your text but these above are the ones you should pay the most attention to.

You’re Not Done Yet:
A big mistake most people do is that they don’t revisit their keywords. Every once in a while, you should update your keywords and run new searches to see if your keywords are still being used as search queries or if they changed. Keep track of your keywords at all time and always add new keywords to your keyword database.
